What's your current annual energy usage (kWh of gas or litres of oil)?

You can find an estimate on your Energy Bill.

Here are some examples, if you don't have an energy bill to hand:

  • Low: 1-3 bedroom home, with modern insulation or new build.
  • Medium: 2-4 bedroom home, with some insulation measures or new build.
  • High: 4+ bedroom home, with a large floor area or poor insulation levels.

The ZEB Boiler

Tepeo-Boiler

9kW peak electrical charging rate

Self-consumption of renewables

40kWh of smart thermal energy storage

15kW heat output and any water temperature setpoint

No changes required to heating system or control equipment

Quick and simple to install by qualified heating engineer and electrician

Onboard revenue grade electricity metering and frequency monitoring

Low environmental impact materials

Greener than gas & oil

Did you know that 31% of household carbon emissions comes from home heating? By removing your flue, you can cut 100% of these emissions, meaning improved air quality and a cleaner tomorrow.

Cheaper than electric boilers

Want to save the planet but without the cost? Choose the ZEB - a smart boiler that can store heat at the cheapest and greenest times, saving you £1.5k versus an electric boiler.

Easy to install, use & maintain

Want an easy way to go green? Choose the ZEB, which works the same as your current boiler and can be installed in 1-2 days with minimal fuss and the added bonus of App control.

The Zeb Boiler

The ZEB is an award-winning, low carbon, plug-and-play replacement for a fossil fuel boiler. It heats your home affordably while lowering your carbon footprint and supporting renewable generation.

The ZEB is powered by electricity and works like a thermal battery to store heat really efficiently until it is needed. Our patented heat-management technology then cleverly releases the heat to your radiators, underfloor heating and water tank when your thermostat calls for it.

The ZEB’s intelligent charging algorithm looks at your tariff, the weather, the grid carbon intensity and how much heat your home uses to automatically charge up – keeping running costs & carbon low, while avoiding wasted heat.

Inside a ZEB's brain

The ZEB automatically and dynamically charges. It does not simply charge up off-peak, but intelligently based on the factors below. This minimises running cost, while also providing heating when needed. The ZEB calculates:

  1. How much heating the home needs – based on historical heat demand & live weather forecasts
  2. Given the heat demand, it determines when to charge – using the customer’s tariff price & timing to find a cost-optimal charging schedule
  3. Electricity carbon intensity is then added to the mix, so that if the ZEB only needs a limited charge, it will preferentially seek that charge at the lowest carbon times of day & in-line with the tariff pricing

This model is completely flexible across a range of tariffs: from Economy 7 or fixed-time EV tariffs, to flexible / variable time-of-use tariffs where pricing follows the wholesale market.

The ZEB can also factor on-site generation like solar into its charging calculation. This feature is in BETA now, but due for release in Spring 2023.

How the ZEB Works

The ZEB uses electricity to supply your heating, charging up and storing most of the heat your home requires at off-peak times. This makes it a more cost-effective and cleaner option compared to existing boilers.

Technology Comparisons

Heat pumps benefit from a CoP but have a limited ability to take advantage of variably priced electricity.

Current EV tariffs have a ratio of 4:1 between peak and off-peak pricing, enabling a ZEB to compete on running costs against a heat pump.

What's the ideal home for a ZEB?

  • Up to 12,000kWh of energy usage per year for heating & hot water (roughly 1,100L of oil). You can find an estimate on your energy bill
  • A ‘wet’ heating system i.e. you have radiators or underfloor heating, and a hot water tank (or can get one)
  • Space for the ZEB on an accessible, solid and level surface – typically on the ground floor.
  • Either a flat, bungalow, semi-detached or detached 2-4 bedroom house
  • A daily heat consumption of 60 kWh or less
  • A whole home heat loss of 5 kW or less
